Jorge Soares is the Director of the Programme for Knowledge at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation since 2017. He was Full Professor of Pathology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon (2013).
Presently, Jorge Soares is the President of the National Council of Ethics for the Life Sciences (CNECV).
He was the former Professor of Pathology, Medical Sciences Faculty and Lisbon Medical School; Former Director of the Pathology Department of Lisbon Cancer Institute; Former Director of the Institute of Forensic Sciences at Lisbon.
From 2009 to 2017, Jorge Soares was the Head of the Health and Human Development Department and the Programme for Innovation in Health at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He is also a past-President of the Portuguese Society of Pathology, Portuguese Society of Senology and Sociedade das Ciências Médicas de Lisboa.
He is a Member of the Academy of Medicine of Portugal, Academia das Ciências, and he is Academico Correspondiente at the Real Academia Nacional de España and the Real Academy of Medicine of Granada.
He served in several prestigious national and international committees and governing bodies in the field of Pathology, Oncology, Medical Education, Biomedical Research and Bioethics.
